What is Heart and Soil?
Heart and Soil is family led effort to preserve and maintain outdoor learning spaces for our children and their teachers to enjoy during the school day.
Why does Heart and Soil exist?
Heart and Soil creates opportunities for parents, grandparents, and children to be hands-on contributors who make an impact on their school environment. We care deeply about having beautiful, accessible, outdoor spaces for teachers to take our children to enjoy during the school day. We are also realistic about the financial and budgetary pressures in our school district right now and recognize that community support can help to bridge the gap so our children continue to thrive.
How did Heart and Soil evolve?
This specific effort was born through a collaboration between a dedicated class mom and a few amazing SCS teachers who each wanted to see the "Kinder Garden" courtyard transform back into the beautiful space it once was so the Kindergarten class could enjoy their end-of-year culmination. Moms, dads and even grandparents signed up to help clean up the garden, families graciously donated plants and soil and mulch, and the space was returned to it's pre-covid beauty. But the collaboration of school families and school staff working together to maintain these spaces is a Sea Cliff tradition many years in the making as it has been a school-parent partnership since these spaces were created. "Many hands make light work!"
When can I come help?
Throughout the year, pop-ups will be scheduled to tackle specific projects as needed - weeding an overgrown space, planting new plants or caring for existing ones, seasonal clean-ups to prepare spaces for use, even taking on bigger projects to help build out better and more functional areas to meet current needs. Join the notification list to hear about pop-ups as they are scheduled!
Where can I share new ideas?
You can reach out to Heart and Soil by email at seacliffheartandsoil@gmail.com to share your ideas. We are not officially associated with the district, however we do work very closely with the school admins to achieve common goals for our children.
